Snack. Sardine, on toast.  Dinner. Borscht, with dinner rolls.  Workout. 30-minute-run. Sit-ups. Laundry. M. did laundry—whites only. This evening, I opened my brand-new  Le Creuset Dutch oven.

Snack.  Toast, topped with Nutella and banana. Dinner.  Spanish-style shrimp, with polenta.  Fruit of the Day. Banana. Workout. 30-minute-run. Sit-ups. When I woke up at 6:00 a.m., this morning, the temperature outside would’ve felt like a brutal minus 18 degrees Fahrenheit if, that is, I’d been out. It was the effect of the polar vortex. I stepped out an hour later, by which time the mercury had climbed up, but by a very little. During the day, I stayed indoors. I looked out at the sky once and found it to be pure blue, without a dollop of cloud.

Snack. We went to Starbucks for a cup of coffee and a slice of banana cake. Back home, we had a cheese sandwich. Dinner. Linguine, with a flavorful mix of with sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, red chili flakes, kalamata olives, feta and parsley. Fruit of the Day. Banana. Workout. Shoveling snow in the driveway for half an hour. It worked up quite a sweat.

Snack. I choose my bars wisely. As far as protein bars go, the one I had today was palatable. Pure Protein's Chocolate Deluxe has 21 grams of protein; 3, sugar; and 180 calories. I asked M. to grab a cheeseburger from McDonald's.    In the late afternoon, M. and I shared a cheese-and-lettuce sandwich.  Dinner. Drumsticks; a wedge of iceberg lettuce, with a homemade spicy Caesar dressing, on the side. Lesson: Don't bake or roast with any marinade that has sriracha for base.   Workout. 40-minute-run. SPICY CAESAR DRESSING.   Makes about 1 cup. 1/2 cup mayonnaise. 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil. 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar. 1½ tablespoons lemon juice. 1/2 tablespoon Asian chili paste. 1/2 tablespoon Dijon mustard. 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce. 1/2 teaspoon minced anchovies. 2 cloves garlic, grated.

Snack.  Campbell's Chunky Chicken Noodle Soup, with garlic toast.  Dinner. Tofu (in a sauce that I still have to formulate a name for.)  Workout. 40-minute-run.  I went to Panera to meet with with the publisher of VWG.
